Floyd Mayweather Next Fight 2014: Marcos Maidana Rematch?
Following his triumph over Marcos Maidana, people have been speculating about who Floyd Mayweather Jr's next opponent will be.
Some people are hoping that Mayweather will have a rematch with Maidana, as they think he did enough in the last fight to cause serious doubts. For large portions of his fight with Mayweather it was Maidana who was pushing forward as the aggressor, although most analysts pointed out that Mayweather struck the more telling punches.
According to Bad Left Hook, in his press conference after the fight, Mayweather actually deplored any talk about Maidana doing enough to question the result. Mayweather said, "I don't duck or dodge anyone," continuing, "If Maidana feels he won, in September, he can get it again. Did Maidana win some rounds? Absolutely. I'm not going to cry and complain."
During the press meet, Mayweather not only expressed his desire for a different referee in the next fight, but also accused Maidana of a "dirty fight."
There is no prospect of Amir Khan challenging Mayweather, because the latter said that he wants his next fight to be scheduled in September. But Khan said that if the fight is scheduled in September, he would not get sufficient time for preparations after the month of Ramadan fasting for him.
Some are speculating whether Danny Garcia will challenge Mayweather. In fact, Mayweather too may want Garcia, who has remained undefeated, and is going strong at 28-0 with 16 knockouts.
A Bleacher Report said, "At 140 pounds, Garcia is a far smaller opponent than Maidana," adding, "After Money was knocked around the ring for a good portion of Saturday's fight, it's conceivable he will want to fight a smaller opponent next."
In a interview with ESPN last year, Garcia said that that he did not have any problems in fighting Mayweather.
He said, "You know, I really don't know. At the end of the day, I'm just a fighter. I come to fight with heart and I give the fans what they want. If Golden Boy and (adviser) Al Haymon want it, I'll do it. It is what it is."
There is one other possibility that continues to be talked about. Many are hoping for a match between Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather. However, there is no concrete indication as to when this fight may take place, if ever at all.
