Floyd Mayweather Next Fight 2014: Marcos Maidana 2 or Amir Khan Up Next?
After Floyd Mayweather's successful fight with Argentinian-born Marcos Maidana, the most pressing question is who will be his next opponent to try and break his 46-0 record and try to take away his undefeated WBA Welterweight Super World Title.
Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is certainly not on the list of possible challengers anytime soon, sports analysts say, so the fight that all boxing fans want to see will still not be on the cards yet, and many are beginning to question whether they will ever fight one another.
According to USA Today analyst Bob Velin, "For the 46th time 46 career fights, Mayweather, 37, came into the post-fight news conference a winner. And this time it was also as the world champ carrying the WBA and WBC welterweight titles. But it was not easy, a close, majority decision, much to the displeasure of the sellout crowd of 16,268, a partisan Maidana crowd that booed vociferously when the result was announced."
While the boxing crowd may be looking for a stronger Maidana, Mayweather may also find equally strong opponents with Amir Khan and Luis Carlos Abregu.
The British fighter, Amir Khan, is defined by his quick striking combinations, which may complement Mayweather's fighting style. Though the 27-year-old boxer may be a decade younger than Mayweather, critics say that his ultimate weakness would be his proverbial glass jaw, and he has been knocked out before by a lesser considered opponent after being caught with a single big hit.
Meanwhile, Abregu is also seen as another possible next challenger for Mayweather following his major comeback after a major right hand injury. The Argentine fighter recently won a TKO against Venezuelan boxer Jean Carlos Prada. Abregu poses a huge challenge with his punching power, tested agility, and dodging abilities, and many boxing fans would be up for that bout.
