Florida Man Allegedly Kills Son for Interrupting His 'Xbox' Play and 'Fringe' Watching
A 24-year-old man from Florida allegedly suffocated his crying baby son so he could continue playing video games and watch TV.
According to Citrus County Jail deputies, Cody Wygant is charged with child neglect and third-degree murder and is being held without bail, reported Fox News.
The 16-month old Daymeon Wygant was pronounced dead at the hospital after paramedics showed up and could not get the infant breathing.
"It is inconceivable that a father could kill his infant son -- it just baffles the mind," Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said in a press release. "Our only sense of relief now comes from knowing that we did exactly what we needed to do to bring justice to him swiftly. Our prayers go out to those who knew and loved Daymeon."
Investigators report Cody smothered the boy for three to four minutes until the baby became "lethargic." He then left the baby alone covered in blankets and pillows for more than five hours. WNCT reported the baby was left "in such a way as to prevent the decedent from receiving fresh air." When he finally checked on Daymeon, he was blue and unresponsive.
Wygant confessed he grew frustrated by the baby's crying because it was preventing him from playing Xbox and watching "Fringe."
Fox News reported that Wygant's girlfriend and mother of the child was not around, and he is the primary caregiver of the child. There was also another child, a three-month-old daughter by Cody and his girlfriend. That child has been placed in the care of the Department of Children and Families.
