Flappy Bird Review: Are Frustration Levels Rising As High As Scores?
2,147,483,647 is the high score at the viral mobile game Flappy Bird. With millions vying with themselves and others for a high score, many players of Flappy Bird find themselves continually frustrated by the challenging game.
Flappy bird is the kind of game you play that can drive you insane or into tears or both maybe. The International Digital Times wrote: 'It smacks you in the face early with a "you can't beat me' attitude that will drive away a lot of gamers. But if you're the type who takes losses personally and is prone to rage quits then you will love how much you hate Flappy Bird."
The single designer who both originated and programmed the game is a Vietnamese 29 year old named Dong Nguyen. The source of this uber-popular app, who seems to prefer continued anonymity rather than entering the public eye, has wowed tech commentators by creating a global sensation from a bare bones concept with no marketing help. Nguyen has been quoted as saying: "I didn't use any promotion methods. All accounts on [social media] about Flappy Bird are not mine... I have no resources to do anything else besides uploading the game. The popularity could [just] be...luck."
Here are some commentators on QQ Tech: "This game is horrible. Playing this makes me want to commit suicide because it's so hard and I'm so bad at it. The highest score I've ever gotten was when I managed to clear five pipes; usually I can't clear more than three."
Another wrote: "A pure waste of time. Nevertheless, my high score's 30 pipes."
