Finale of "The Bible" Series on Easter Sunday Brings Out Emotions In Everyone

"The Bible" series on The History Channel marked the end of its 5 week run on Easter Sunday.  The final episode entitled "Passion" was gut wrenching to watch as Jesus is beaten and crucified.  The pure arrogance and mocking from the soldiers is almost unbearable just as a human being, let alone if you believe that Jesus is the Saviour and the way they were treating him.

Social media was buzz with people talking about their reactions to the episode. Many people tweeted that the scenes had moved them to tears as the horrible truths of a Roman crucifixion unfolded.  The say Jesus just "took it" because He knew that was his mission made it even that much more intriguing.  He did not deserve to death by anyones  standards and for people who believe, they know He could've called down angels to get him out of the situation at any point, but He endured through the end which showed His love.  The love that follows of Christ believe that he has for every person in human history and seeing it play out in front of your eyes is very moving.  Diogo Morgado did a mesmerizing job portraying Jesus.  I was thoroughly impressed.

I appreciated, as I have the whole series though, the fact that they are making it as authentic as possible to the characters and attitudes of the people.  Mary (played by Roma Downey), mother of Jesus, was closely followed as she watched her son being tormented and killed.  Seeing the interaction between Mary and Jesus always reminds how human the situation is between a mother and son that is easy to gloss over.  The boldness with which the disciples preach His name after his resurrection is so powerful.

'The Bible' was the surprise ratings winner of the winter/spring schedule beating out shows like "Walking Dead" and "American Idol".

Following the controversy surrounding the depiction of Satan looking like President Obama, the History Channel and the creators denied any deliberate implication of a link between the two.  Burnett and Downey released the following statement, "This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzzani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Bible epics - including Satanic characters, long before Barack Obama was elected as our President."

"The Bible" series became available yesterday on DVD.
