‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Official Trailer News, Release Date: Video Breaks Record for Most-Watched YouTube Movie Teaser
Reaching more than 36.4 million YouTube views and beating out the trailer of the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' film, the 'Fifty Shades of Grey', movie trailer is now tagged as the most watched movie preview of the year, The Independent reported.
The 'Fifty Shades' teaser dethroned 'Teenage Mutant', which garnered 31 million views at the end of March. The trailer even out-figured both 'Godzilla' and 'Transformers: Age of Extinction', with more than 26 million views.
'Fifty Shades' accumulated a total of 56.7 million views since its online premiere July 24, according to Zefr.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the Focus Features film stars Jamie Dornan, Calvin Klein's model-turned-actor, as Christian Grey, a beautiful, brilliant and intimidating multinational businessman whom Anastasia Steele, portrayed by Dakota Johnson, falls for.
Steele is a shy literature student, who, after embarking on a daring, passionately physical affair, discovers Grey's secrets and explores her own dark desires.
In an interview with InStyle Magazine published Thursday, Dornan's other co-star, Gillian Anderson, described the movie's lead man as being "distractingly attractive,".
"The initial intention was not to hire somebody who was that attractive," says Anderson, "However, it was clear that he was very much the man for the job," she added.
Anderson said that their choice for a leading man did not have anything to do with Dorman's good looks. They realized, however, that his physical appearance will have psychological effect to the viewers, which, according to Anderson, was "most definitely something intriguing."
The trailer sparked opposition among conservative groups after it first aired on CBS Today last week. Some groups argued that it makes sexual violence appear normal.
The American Parents Television Council agreed with the decision, speaking out against NBC's move to show an edited down clip of the trailer on morning television.
'Fifty Shades' is considered a global phenomenon, with the trilogy being translated in over 50 languages worldwide since its release. To date, it has sold over 70 million copies all over the world in e-book and print, making it one of the fastest-selling books in history.
'Fifty Shades' is set to hit cinemas on Valentine's Day 2015.
