'Fifty Shades of Grey' News, Review: Movie Faces Harsh Critique, Two Thumbs Down

Fans are all clamoring to hear the final verdict on the highly anticipated 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie that has just hit theaters this weekend.

The popular novel by E.L. James had readers rejoicing when the first trailer was released, but could the teaser have been all hype?

Critics from all over have spoken on the film and have to seem to all collectively given it a thumbs down. The acting was apparently lackluster and director Sam Taylor-Johnson's desperate attempt to adapt the sex-filled drama into a romantic flick resounded in a chaotic mess.

A big complaint stemmed from the two lead actors, Jamie Dornan, and Dakota Johnson, having absolutely no chemistry.

Reviewers have stated:

"It's a slow build to the smutty bits, and one that's disappointingly devoid of tension. Even so, the movie is, by definition, a stronger proposition than the book because it strips away the oodles of cringe-inducing descriptions and internal monologue that tip the text heavily toward self-parody." - Sheri Linden of The Hollywood Reporter

"It dabbles in romantic comedy and splashes around in melodrama, but the one thing it can't be -- the thing the novel so trashily and triumphantly is -- is pornography." - A.O. Scott, New York Times

"The dialogue, based on E.L. James' best-selling book, is laughable, the pacing is sluggish and the performances are one-note. Perhaps worst of all, chemistry is nil between Jamie Dornan as billionaire Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as curious college student Anastasia Steele." Claudia Puig, USA Today.

"The mediocre plot, bland characters and tepid tone don't do any favors. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson treats the movie as serious as a cadaver, which is truly a major disappointment. The screenplay by Kelly Marcel, based on E.L. James' novel, is empty of message or meaning. Those faults alone make Fifty Shades a boring, pointless film." - Justin Craig, FoxNews.
