The popular Fast and the Furious franchise was put on indefinite hold after superstar Paul Walker's death late last month, but now Universal is saying that the plot for the movie is being completely rewritten in order to honor Paul Walker. The movie will continue with production early next year and will hopefully have a Thanksgiving release, perhaps on the anniversary of Paul Walker's death in the car crash.
According to Universal, about $150 million has been invested in the film and over half of Walker's scenes have been shot. Executives and writers are working together to find a way to make sure that the film not only honors Paul Walker, but also gives fans of the franchise some closure after the star's untimely death.
Celebuzz.com reported today, "A Universal source says based on fan reaction, there is support for completing the version of the movie that was underway, even though it is said to contain several car crashes."
A source told The Hollywood Reporter, "What will drive everything is, is there an honorable and sensible way to do this?" The cast of Fast and the Furious 7, including Vin Diesel, has yet to comment on the news. Daughter Meadow Walker and girlfriend Rebecca haven't talked to the media about the recent developments either.
Paul Walker is remembered as being a good father, a philanthropist, and a good friend to both Hollywood stars and others. He died in a fiery car crash with a close friend when they were returning from one of his charity conventions.
