'Fantastic Four' Spoilers News: Practical Costumes to Combat Cartoonish Portrayals in Previous Franchise Films
Fans of the Fantastic Four Marvel comic series by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby eagerly await Josh Trank's film. The former Fantastic Four films were directed by Tim Story, and they received a lot of criticism for being very cheesy and cartoonish.
Empire magazine exclusive caught up with Trank and the writer and producer Simon Kinberg to talk about the film's approach to the characters and story. Empire also released four images of the new Fantastic Four cast wearing realistic and practical costumes.
Trank told the magazine that the film will be a "dark Amblin movie." Trank said, "There's the opportunity to make something that is challenging and tragic and dramatic. The opportunity is right there in the material. We'd rather steer it in that direction as opposed to just embracing a tone that comes right off the page."
The images are of the four stars of the film. Kate Mara will play Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Miles Teller as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (The Thing). The only one not in uniform was Bell.
Mara is most known for her role on American Horror Story as Hayden McClaine and House of Cards as Zoe Barnes. Teller has stared in films Whiplash as Andrew and Divergent as Peter. Jordan has had other roles in films such as That Awkward Moment and Chronicle. Bell is most known for his roles in TinTin and AMC's Turn: Washington's Spies as Abraham Woodhull.
The new Fantastic Four film is set to release in theaters on August 6 of this year.
