Family-Friendly and Faith Based Movies are Dominating the Top Grossing Films in Hollywood

A new Movieguide report shows that 9 out of the top 10 highest grossing movies of 2013 were family-friendly, or faith based films, which paved the way for many more inspirational films in the future.

On both domestic and international box offices, movies such as "Iron Man 3," "Frozen" and "Man of Steel," and a large portion of the top 10, such as "Fast & Furious 6," had references to Jesus Christ.

"There is a great incentive to make movies that are good, true and beautiful. There is an audience out there, and studio heads - even ones that aren't Christian - have intentions to reach this audience," Movieguide founder Dr. Ted Baehr told FOX411.

The study revealed that movies with faith-driven, redemption-based topics in the top-25 category averaged $87.07 million at the box office, and those with a non-Christian themes or outlooks averaged less than half of that.

Movies that did not have bad language, such as, "Frozen," earned the most (an average of $65.81 million), while films with more than 25 occurrences of vulgarity made much less and did not make the top 25.

Likewise, films without any sexual content such as "Gravity," averaged $51.15 million in box office earnings. Compare that to films with significant nudity or sexual content, and they averaged less than $24 million in the U.S.

"Contrary to popular opinion, sex does not really sell," the study stated. "Moviegoers clearly prefer the types of positive, family friendly movies with biblical and morally uplifting content."

The report also claimed that movies reflecting "strong Pro-American, conservative, patriotic, moral and/or capitalist content or values" such as "Iron Man 3," "The Hunger Games," "Hating Breitbart," "Captain Phillips" and "Lone Survivor," earned more.

"If studio executives, filmmakers, actors and stockholders want to make more money they should adopt these spiritually uplifting standards, theology and ethics," the report concluded.

Many Faith-based films are scheduled to come out in the New Year. There is a stream of movies featuring the Bible's most prominent characters set to be released over the coming 12 months.

Upcoming releases:

Son of God, Feb 28

Noah, March 28

Left Behind (Remake), June 20

The list does not end there as Warner Brothers and Fox have both picked up the story of Moses doing two movies on the Biblical patriarch. Sony Pictures has a film in development called the "Redemption of Cain," which talks about the story of Cain and Abel, and Lionsgate's "Mary Mother of Christ" are forthcoming, among others.
