'Fallout 4' Survival Mode Beta News: Challenges Emulate Difficulty Of ‘Dark Souls?’ Shortcuts Not Available
The beta for the Survival Mode of "Fallout 4" has been released on steam, and gamers who downloaded the upgrade will find that the challenges are even more challenging, according to the latest news.
In a blog post, Bethesda said that the high level has "four major pillars for the Survival Mode" of "Fallout 4" in line with their goal of imitating the gameplay of "Dark Souls."
These four pillars are strategy, exploration, resource management and role playing.
Strategy is important because one wrong choice could spell disaster for your character. Even the most innocuous item or gear could have significant implications later on.
In exploration, players are urged to pay attention to their surroundings; resource management means that players need to be more circumspect about their horde; while role playing just ramps up the realism a few notches.
Players who managed to grab their hands on "Fallout 4" Survival Mode beta will find they could no longer employ fast travel.
"If you wish to be somewhere, you'll have to get there the old-fashioned way," Bethesda said in a news article for "Fallout 4" Survival Mode beta. "In other words, exploration is now mandatory, exposing more of the Commonwealth's secret gems."
Meanwhile, players who played the "Fallout 4" Survival Mode beta posted on a Reddit thread the need to have an exit and save option for the game.
"Sometimes I actually have to leave the computer leave unplanned, e.g someone calls me to meet up, I can't tell my friends 'Yeah just wait 10 min I have to find a bed for my video game character, he's deep in some water treatment plant atm,'" one poster said.
"Seriously, I was looking for a bed for the last two freaking hours," another complained. "Two. Freaking. Hours. Boom, fragmine. Ugh. I both love and hate this mode atm."
