'Falling Skies', the action sci-fi thriller by TNT which first premiered in 2011, has just been renewed for its fifth and final season.

According to reports, the TV series' last season is set to air with just 10 episodes for next year. The show's concluding season, however, will not be televised until around summer of that year.

'Falling Skies' follows the story of a father, Tom Mason, and his son, Matt Mason; played by Noah Wyle and Maxim Knight, respectively. Along with other characters, the Masons are some of the very few survivors on Earth after an alien invasion.

The plot thickens upon the characters' discovery that a human-alien hybrid exists in the person of Lexi Glass Mason, Tom's daughter with Anne Glass, a pediatrician-turned field doctor. She is a half-sister to Matt and the rest of the Mason brothers.

Currently, the series' fourth season is still ongoing and has 18 episodes left. In the latest episode of this season, rumor has it that after being separated from his family for quite some time, Tom will finally make it back home to reunite with them and the 2nd mass.

The joyous reunion however, will be cut short by an illness that Lexi would contract. The sickness will be apparently associated with Lexi's hybrid DNA.

In that said episode, her mother Anne will be taking drastic measures to keep her child alive, which will conclusively lead to an agreement with the other family members.

The said episode, which is the sixth in the series' fourth season, is set to premiere on July 27th. 'Falling Skies' airs every Sunday on TNT.
