'Extant' TV Series: New CBS Show Casts Halle Berry: High Ratings & Viewership
Last night, CBS aired the premiere of the highly anticipated summer series Extant, starring Oscar winner Halle Berry. The sci-fi series has been highly anticipated not only because of Berry's star power, but also because Steven Spielberg himself is an executive producer of the show.
Extant begins with the return of Molly Woods from a solo mission in space which lasted for 13 months. Berry's character is seen to be needing time to readjust and blend back into the daily routine of normal life after being in isolation for so long.
Tension begins to mount when her friend Sam Barton, played by Camryn Manheim, confronts her friend and colleague after getting back the results of Wood's medical examination. The mystery starts to unfold when the viewers learn that even though Woods was alone on the mission, the astronaut returned pregnant.
Questions arise as to what is exactly going on with Woods and her husband John Woods, played by ER alum Goran Visnjic. Viewers begin to find out about Woods' previous marriage with Marcus Dawkins, played by Sergio Harford.
In a series of flashbacks, viewers get a glimpse of when and how Woods became pregnant.
When a solar flare hit the spaceship and scrambled the electronics, Woods finds herself in what seems to be a hallucination when she is faced with Marcus, who has supposedly died.
Another interesting plot development involves Molly and John's son, Ethan. The boy happens to be a prototype robot that has become their son, because the couple was having difficulties getting pregnant on their own.
The first episode of Extant had good ratings, pulling in a total of 9.4 million viewers. The show airs Wednesdays on CBS.
