‘Extant’ Season 2 Renewal News & Rumors: Halle Berry New Series Cancelled - Low Ratings?
After 13 episodes and a couple of delays with the date of the season finale, CBS's 'Extant' wrapped up on Wednesday with the episode "Ascension." Now all that's left is the verdict about whether or not the show will be renewed for a second season.
On that note, there's speculation about the show being cancelled because of the relatively low ratings toward the end of Season 1.
'Extant' started out strong with its promising plot receiving 9.5 million viewers for the premiere episode, 1.6 million of which belongs to the 18-49 demographic. Unfortunately, the ratings declined to 5.6 million viewers and a record low 4.6 million for the penultimate episode.
"The move keeps 'Extant' away from premiere week competition. Also, the sci-fi drama has not fared well with a reality lead-in, leading to CBS' recent decision to put it behind a 'Criminal Minds' rerun instead of airing it after 'Big Brother' as originally scheduled," wrote Deadline.
Series creator Mickey Fisher, however, remained hopeful that there will be a sequel to 'Extant' and that the production has "big plans" for the succeeding episodes. He first dished about a possible renewal in August hinting that Joshua Malina, in his character Dr. Scott Beck, might return for one of the major roles.
On September 16, Fisher said that the crew is still awaiting official news from CBS executives, but believes the show has a pretty good chance for renewal. Screenwriter Greg Walker also posed the same positive energy saying, "We love the idea of season two being the sequel to this," he told The Hollywood Reporter, "The threat we establish in season one will continue in season two."
'Extant' stars Halle Berry as Molly Woods, Pierce Gagnon as Ethan Woods, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hideki Yasumoto, and Michael O'Neill as Alan Sparks.
