Exodus Gods and Kings Movie News: Christian Bale Co-Star Joel Edgerton Says New Film Will Be 'Rich and Epic' (PHOTOS)
The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale will assume to role of Old Testament protagonist Moses, in a brand new Biblical film entitled Exodus: Gods and Kings.
"I guess I didn't pay attention in Sunday School," said legendary director Ridley Scott to Entertainment Weekly regarding the Bible story of Moses freeing his fellow Hebrew slaves from Egyptian Pharaoh Rhamses' tyrannical reign, "There was so much I had forgotten. It's a marvelous human story about change. There are massive questions here. You treat it with great respect."
The director is looking to surpass the success of the 1956 classic film The Ten Commandments which starred Charlton Heston (Moses), Yul Brynner (Rhamses) and Anne Baxter (Nefertari).
"The bigger the better," said Scott to PEOPLE magazine in reference to the production of the upcoming film, "It's all pretty massive...We nailed it absolutely visually."
The Gladiator and Blade Runner director's new star studded cast includes Bale, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley, John Turturro and Joel Edgerton.
"The word 'authentic' comes to mind," said Edgerton to PEOPLE magazine, "It feels very rich, grand and epic. There's something very regal and austere and driven about it, and very human."
The 40-year-old Australian native also revealed the preparation he had to undertake for the role of the ancient Egyptian ruler, who would not let Moses' people go until after God sent 10 plagues in defiance of Rhamses and mythological deities of Egypt.
"My body was almost entirely void of hair. I actually spent four months shaved and plucked," said Edgerton, "I would literally get up every morning and put on a gold skirt and work with an eagle or a puma or something around me, and I would rule Egypt. It was bizarre, but fun."
Exodus: Gods and Kings is slated to arrive in movie theaters on December 12, 2014.
