‘Evil Dead’ TV Series Release Date 2015 as 'Ash vs. Evil Dead', Bruce Campbell Cast as Lead Role

'The Evil Dead' is set to return as an original television series in 2015 entitled 'Ash vs. Evil Dead', which will showcase the return of Bruce Campbell as the lead hero, Ash.

Starz has given the approval to revive the original 1981 comedy-horror film and turn it into its own original television series.

Campbell is set to reprise his role as the chainsaw-handed, shotgun-wielding Ash Williams, and will be joined by Sam Raimi, who directed the film back in 1981. Raimi will also cowrite the script with his brother, Ivan Raimi, and Tom Spezialy. Raimi and Campbell are set as the series' executive producers

Robert Tapert, who also worked on the original 'Evil Dead', will serve as the third producer. He is known for works such as 'Xena: Warrior Princess', and the Starz produced film series 'Spartacus', in which he first worked with Raimi.

Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik said "Starz first worked with Sam and Rob on 'Spartacus' and we are thrilled to be back in business with them. With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campebll returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give 'Evil Dead' fans around the world the fix they've been craving."

During the Wondercon 2013, Campbell briefly mentioned his return as Ash, saying that it has been over 20 years since he wielded the character's chainsaw. Campbell joked that Ash might have to fight the Deadlites with a cane or end up faking a heart attack to save himself.

Campbell, however, claimed he was up for the challenge and that there will be a lot of Deadlite outrageous humor in the upcoming series, all while toting Ash's trademark chainsaw and "broomstick."

'Ash vs. Evil Dead', which will have 10 half-hour episodes, is set to hit the small screen in 2015.
