Everett Golson Suspended for Fall 2013, Could Be Headed to the SEC according to Rumors
Highly touted Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has been suspended. This announcement will force head coach Brian Kelly to rethink his offensive approach for the coming 2013 season. Without his reliable signal caller, he'll have to tweak and retweak the Notre Dame offense to remain competitive after their run to the national championship last season. Golson was suspended, according to ESPN's Tom Rinaldi (via SportsCenter), for not living up the academic standards of the university.
As a result, the Fighting Irish must resort to their other QB's, Tommy Rees, Andrew Hendrix and Malik Zaire. Rees would seem to be the first choice because he has the most experience of the three. In three seasons for the Irish, Rees has tossed 34 touchdowns to 24 picks, sports a career 63.6 completion percentage and displayed incredible clutch talent last season. The bad news might not stop there, as the Notre Dame star might be heading down south to the SEC.
Chicago Tribune sports reporter Brian Hamilton recently reported that other teams might be interested in Golson, when he tweeted that Notre Dame had been contacted by an "unnamed SEC School" about the QB. This could be bad news for the Irish, if Golson decides to leave, but he says that he has no plans of leaving Notre Dame at this time.
Golson started 11 games for the Fighting Irish last season as a redshirt freshman, leading the team to the Discover BCS National Championship, where it lost to Alabama to finish a 12-1 season. He completed 187-of-318 passes for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns with six interceptions. Golson also rushed for 298 yards and six scores.
There could be precedent for a chance to reapply to Notre Dame, as former players Darrin Walls and Gary Gray missed a semester because of reported academic issues and returned.
