England looks to defeat Ecuador in an international friendly match before the 2014 World Cup, which starts next week. England has only won the FIFA World Cup once in 1966 versus West Germany by a 4-2 score in extra time, the current team is focusing to win another championship this year, although the nation would probably be satisifed if the team could make a run to the quarterfinals or semifinals as they are in a building stage with their current squad.
"You very rarely play an international match against opponents and they haven't got their hands on their hearts and singing their anthem as loud as they can, and we've made a decision that that's what we're going to do, too because we are proud, we are happy to be wearing that England shirt," said England's manager Roy Hodgson to reporters, revealing that he insisted his team sing the English national anthem despite the fact Wednesday's game is an exhibition match.
Meanwhile, Ecuador's head coach Reinaldo Rueda believes his team has the ability to compete in next week's World Cup tournament.
"Ecuador qualified because we have good players working well, not because of altitude," said Rueda, according to The Guardian.
The 2014 World Cup begins on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in Brazil.
The game will start at 3:00 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the BeIN Sport network or online through live stream by clicking here.
