'Elysium' Asked Rapper to Star in New Sci-Fi Movie Before Matt Damon

Eminem had the option to get his feet wet as a movie star once again in the Sci-Fi movie Elysium. 

Director Neill Blomkamp shared that he had actually asked the famous rapper to star in his new movie before asking movie star Matt Damon. 

Even before asking Eminem, Blomkamp first asked Ninja, of Die Antwoord, the South African rap crew. Ninja thought that it would be too high profile of a role to begin his acting career so they moved their focus to Eminem. 

Eminem showed interest in starring in the film, but he would only do it if they could shoot the movie in Detroit. This just proved to be impossible in the end, so they had to move on and find someone else. 

Matt Damon eventually agreed to star in the movie and we are sure that he will do a spectacular job. 

Damon will star alongside Jodie Foster in Elysium which is set in the year 2159. The human race is divided between the wealthy elite who have moved to live on a man-made space station that meets all of their needs called Elysium and the poor people in the population and left on Earth to fend for themselves against high crime and poverty surroundings. 

Damon's character fights to break into Elysium and Foster plays the mayor who will go to any lengths to keep the "undesirable" people off of the station. 

The new movie Elysium will open on August 23 in the U.K.
