Eminem's 'MMLP2' is Canada's Top Selling Album of 2013 with Over 242,000 Sold
Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP 2 became the highest selling album in Canada for 2013.
The controversial rapper surpassed Canada's own, Celine Dion by over 10,000 records as MMLP2 moved 242,000 and Dion's, Loved Me Back to Life, sold, 231,000.
Also on the top 10 list in Canada was Imagine Dragons, Mumford & Sons, Pink, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, the Lumineers, Michale Buble, and One Direction, reported 680News.
The album sales report said over 200,000 of Dion's physical albums were sold while Eminem only sold 150,000 physical copies. The rest of the sales came in almost another 100,000 download purchases.
Eminem's album smashed records all over, as it sold incredibly well and received rave reviews from fans and media.
What MMLP2 managed to do so well is revisit his signature style from the early 2000s while update his flow and maturity for the 40 year-old sober, and more seasoned self. As the listener goes track by track they will be able to hear the influences and throwbacks to each of one his albums; quite literally as well too, because he uses a slew of samples from his catalog.
Overall, to call MMLP2 a classic is a little premature, but if looked at for what it is, it is almost like a greatest hits of sorts, as the album touches on every part of Eminem's career. It has the darkness of the first MMLP, the psychoticness of the Slim Shady LP, the pin point precision of The Eminem Show, the playfulness of Encore, the rapid fire aggressive flow seen on Recovery and Bad Meets Evil, and some of the silly almost "head scratching" moments of Relapse.
