Eminem Facebook Lawsuit: Slim Shady's Publisher Claims "Under the Influence" Copyright Infringement
Detroit rapper Eminem's song publishing company, 8 Mile Style is reportedly suing tech giant Facebook, claiming the website used his music, without permission, in an ad last month.
The complaint filed Monday, claims Portland-based ad agency Wieden + Kennedy, copied Eminem's song, "Under the Influence" to "curry favor with Facebook by catering to Zuckerberg's personal likes and interests, and/or to invoke the same irreverent theme."
The music in the April 4 ad has since been altered. Eminem's song publishers believe the alteration is proof that Facebook has acknowledged the infringement.
The ad, dubbed "Airplane" featured Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg previewing the Facebook Home, a new operating system for Android phones.
Facebook has yet to respond to allegations.
"If you fail to respond, judgment by default may be entered against you for the relief demanded in the complaint," according to a letter from the court. "You also must file your answer or motion with the court."
"Under the Influence" was recorded for Em's third and highest selling album of all time The Marshall Mathers LP. "Under the Influence" was written and arranged by Slim Shady and various D12 group members. "Under the Influence" along with tracks like "The Real Slim Shady" and "Stan" helped the album reach over 22 million units sold.
