Elton John Claims 'If Jesus Was Alive Today' He Would Support Gay Marriage (VIDEO)
In a recent interview, musician Sir Elton John claimed that he thinks Jesus Christ would be accepting of gay marriage "if He were alive today."
"These are old and stupid things. If Jesus was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen," said John to Sky News, "He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about."
The 67-year-old British vocalist, who is homosexual himself, is planning to marry his longtime partner David Furnish in 2015 after the UK legalized same-sex marriage earlier this year.
He also revealed that he thinks that the Church of England should share views with Pope Francis regarding homosexuality.
"The new Pope has been wonderful, he's excited me so much," said John, "He's stripped it [the Church] down to the bare bones and said it's all basically about love."
Previously, the singer, best known for hits such as "Candle in the Wind" and "I'm Still Standing", created huge controversy when he alleged that the Jesus was in fact a homosexual man.
"I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems," said John in an interview four years ago.
John now plans on meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia in November regarding the issue of gay rights in the former Soviet Union nation.
"Globally, we seem to have gone backwards over the last 18 months," said John, "I will see Putin and talk to him - I don't know what good it will do though."
