Edward Herrmann Cause of Death News: 'Gilmore Girls' Star and Emmy Winner Dies
News outlets are reporting that Tony Award and Emmy-winning actor Edward Herrmann has died on December 31st, just before the New Year in a New York Hospital. Edward had been diagnosed with a Stage 4 Glioblastoma brain tumor one year ago. Regardless, the legendary actor put up a valiant fight before he passed away at 71-years-old.
For those that may not know, Herrmann's career in acting began over 40 years ago. Since then, the great American star has been seen in famous movies like 'The Great Gatsby', 'The Paper Chase', and Oscar-nominated film, 'Reds'. Edward won his sole Emmy in 1999 for his portrayal on 'The Practice' as a guest actor.
Herrmann is famous for his roles as Franklin D. Roosevelt in several films and documentaries. In 1976, the gracious actor played FDR in the telefilm 'Eleanor and Franklin', which won 11 Emmys. Later, in a 2005 documentary for the same great President, Herrmann and Meryl Streep voiced the Roosevelt couple. Herrmann also made several more appearances on History Channel as the voice of President Franklin Roosevelt.
Despite his early films' success, the American star is most recognized today for his role as the family patriarch, Richard Gilmore, on the television show 'Gilmore Girls'. The series ran for six seasons and 154 episodes. Herrmann happily worked with Lauren Graham, Alexis Blidel, and Melissa McCarthy on the show before he retired from showbiz once and for all.
The Emmy winner's manager, Robbie Kass, was proud and happy to have worked with Herrmann. "Besides being an accomplished actor, Ed was also a true gentleman and a scholar, as well as being an incredibly kind and decent man," Kass told Deadline, "He will be sorely missed."
