Drudge Report News: Iowa Gov Terry Branstad Says ‘Not in My State’ Regarding Central American Children
Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad's recent statements reveal that he does not want Iowa to be the host to the thousands of Central American children who cross the border to the US from Mexico.
According to CBS, "The first thing we need to do is secure the border. I do have empathy for these kids," said Branstad. "But I also don't want to send the signal that (you) send your kids to America illegally. That's not the right message."
The Drudge Report has been focusing on the immigration issue for over several weeks now.
This Monday a statement from the White House read, "These children will - and other immigrants who are attempting to enter the country without documentation - will go through the immigration process and that means their claims of asylum will be considered by an immigration judge and by asylum officials," says the report, revealed by Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary. "What that means is it means that if a immigration judge determines that they face a credible threat of death upon their return to their home country, then, again, I'm not an immigration judge, but it is likely that the immigration judge will find that that person should be granted humanitarian relief."
The present law turns over the immigrant children back to the Federal Authorities. With the court process taking years, they are often reunited with their parents or relatives while they wait for the immigration court to decide their future.
