Drudge Report News: Matt Drudge Says He's ‘Obsessed’ With Immigration
The creator of drudgereport.com, Matt Drudge, said during an exclusive interview with WTOP that he is "obsessed" with immigration.
In this rare interview, the editor talked about immigration, which is reflected in the frequency of immigration-related topics on the website, "I'm more obsessed with what's going on with the border these days," he said, "These are very hot, spicy issues. ... I'm sensing some heat, and not just from the temperature outside."
He also said that there are different views from conservatives and liberals who read the news on his pages, "The country is divided," he said, "Capitol Hill is divided. How can you say the airwaves or the Web sites should not be divided?"
However, he elaborated on his strategy in creating a balanced newsroom that offers unbiased reports, "I go where the heat is," Drudge said, "I'm a heat-seeking missile. I will go where the action is ... I make waves. I don't surf them."
He also said that he is not afraid to voice out his political views in some stories, "It's a little psychotic, the news business, because everyone's doing everything. That still doesn't mean there's not important events and information coming all of the time - think of what's just happened this year, the news has been so dynamic internationally and domestic," he said, "This is a vibrant era of media, and it's not going away anytime soon."
Druge tends to avoid interviews, however, he said he agreed to this one because he felt that he might be able to make an impact while in his nation's capital, "D.C., I've never seen it so vibrant, and this station is on the front lines of the nation's capital, and it's serious work. You know news has never been more important," he said.
