Drudge Report Highlights NYTimes Political Bias - Reports on Cliven Bundy, But Not Donald Sterling
Drudge Report founder Matt Drudge has reported that Los Angeles Clippers Owner, Donald Sterling, who was recently given a life ban by the NBA, is a Democrat, and that he gave numerous monetary donations to Democrat politicians over the years.
He wrote, "NYT informed the unwashed how Bundy is a Republican. Leaves out NBA Sterling is a Democrat."
The report was of course referring to Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who previously made racist comments on slavery.
The National Review also posted a report claiming that Sterling was a Democrat, however, it later clarified that officially his political affiliation is unknown, even though he appears he has made political donations exclusively to Democrat Party members.
The National Review wrote, "An earlier version of this post identified Sterling as a Democrat. Although his political donations appear to have been exclusively to Democrats, his official party affiliation is not known."
According to OpenSecrets, the total sum donated by Sterling to Democrat senators Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Bill Bradley of New Jersey and former State Controller Gray Davis between the late 1980s and early 1990s is estimated to be $4,000.
It is being said that in 1989, Sterling signed two separate checks worth $1,000 each to former New York Knicks star Bradley, the Hall of Fame player. In 1990, Democrat Bradley won a reelection and retired from the Senate in 1997.
In a special election for a Senate seat in 1991, Sterling supported Davis over Dianne Feinstein, who is the current Senator from California, by donating him $1,000. Davis, however, lost to Feinstein in 1992 and later became governor of California, prior to being recalled. In the same year, Sterling also donated $1,000 to Patrick Leahy, who is currently the Senator from Vermont.
The database of OpenSecrets includes Sterling's donations to different political leaders till the 1990 election, and in 2011, RealGM, a basketball blog, reported that Sterling's political donations summed up to $6,000 over several years.
Condemning Sterling for his racist comments, President Barak Obama recently said, "The owner is reported to have said some incredibly offensive racist statements that were published. I don't think I have to interpret those statements for you; they kind of speak for themselves."
Meanwhile, an AP report says that the LA Clippers NBA playoff series against the Golden State Warriors is attracting more viewers following the Donald Sterling saga. The team took to the court for the first time last Sunday in Game 4 after the racist comments surfaced about Sterling.
The game drew 6.5 million viewers on ABC, up 48 percent from the 4.4 million spectators who watched Game 1 on the network a little over a week before.
