'Dragon Age: Inquisition' Gameplay News: Classes, Skills, Spells, Combat Strategies

BioWare, the developer of the upcoming title, 'Dragon Age: Inquisition', recently tweeted information about the playable classes and their abilities. The game is looking at a November, 2014 release date.

Additionally, the developer revealed the types of weapons usable by the classes and also offered details regarding combat strategies against certain enemies.

According to the post on Twitter, the warrior class in 'Dragon Age: Inquisition' will be able to use two different types of weapon sets. They'll be able to use two handed weapons, to increase their damage output at the cost of their defense, or a sword and shield combo. If a player decides to use the latter style, he or she will be more durable and resistant against enemies, but evidently deal less damage.

@dragonage tweeted that adopting the second strategy will allow the use of four abilities including Lunge and Slash, Payback Strike, Shield Bash and Shield Wall. In 'Dragon Age 2', Shield Bash is a skill under Weapon and Shield and lets the player attack with the shield, while Shield Wall is the advancement of Shield Defense on the same talent tree. On the other hand, Lunge and Slash and Payback Strike are new abilities and have not been disclosed in-depth.

Provided a warrior opts for a complete offensive strategy, Earthshaking Strike, Whirlwind Strike and Mighty Blow all have the ability to overcome opponents with ease- employing two-handed weapons. However, in this case the warrior will sacrifice the defense offered by wielding a shield. Precisely speaking Mighty Blow as well as Whirlwind Strike are skills under the Two-Handed talent tree in 'Dragon Age 2'.

Besides that, mages in 'Dragon Age: Inquisition' employ staves as their primary weapon, and the combat style heavily depends on magic. The tweet by @dragonage only confirmed the usual basic attacks of a mage like Flashfire, Winter's Grasp, Lightning Bolt, and Mind Blast - the last three existing in 'Dragon Age 2'.

In the preceding game, mages possess several talents subject to the selected mastery. Elemental is focused on fire and ice, Spirit counters enemy mages, Primal for earth and sky, Creation to heal wounds and support party members, Arcane to tap the powers of the Fade, and Entropy to cause chaos on targets.

Nevertheless, BioWare has yet to unveil specialization of mages in 'Dragon Age: Inquisition' - an interesting combat strategy. In 'Dragon Age 2' a mage can transform into a Blood Mage by utilizing blood in dangerous spells, a Force Mage defies the laws of nature to crush and throw enemies and a Spirit Healer utilizes positive energy to heal and save allies.
