Doctor Who Season 12 Spoilers, Rumors Update: Viewers Won’t Suffer Interruption Because of Split Season
The new season of "Dr. Who" will feature a new Doctor with new characteristics going on all new adventures. But can fans expect to see the new season in its entirety or will they have to wait through an interlude to see all the episodes of season eight?
It turns out the Doctor is back in an older, possibly a little more unpredictable version this time. He will be played by Peter Capaldi, a British television actor who has previously played in other roles in the Dr. Who universe, or Whoniverse, and brings, according to Producer Mark Gatiss, a much needed change.
Gatiss told the Digital Spy in a recent interview: "Matt (Smith) was sublime and I was very sorry to see him go, but it's also great to have a change - as it has always been with the Doctor."
The past two seasons of "Dr. Who" were divided into two different parts, each holding six or seven episodes and including a three to four month hiatus. Fans could be pleasantly surprised to hear that neither this nor the ninth season will be broken up into two, and this pattern is intended to hold for the foreseeable future:
"We're not going to do splits [in series eight], and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that-so it will be the traditional form," Stephen Moffat told Digital Spy.
Jenna Coleman, who plays Clara Oswald the companion of the last half of the seventh season, will be sticking around, and we should be able to see some high quality antics from her and the Doctor. What does the new season hold for the two, and where will the TARDIS take them next?
