'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Spoilers: Lady Mary Goes on Mean Streak, Salma Hayek Interested in Joining Downton Abbey

"The Downton Abbey" cast and producers still have a few tricks up their sleeve.

Will Lady Mary uncover some previously unforeseen layer of cruelty? What kind of actor will make guest appearances in the new season? Do one of these include Salma Hayek, who expressed a passionate interest in appearing on the show?

Various stars have been speculated to appear in the new season, but returning characters will most definitely find themselves reprising the unforgettable characters of seasons 1-4. Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary Crawley, told Manhattan Magazine her character may be developing a vicious side in Season 5.

"Lady Mary is witty and even vicious. She does not suffer fools but she is sensitive. She is a mixed bag and I enjoy playing those sides of her."

Michelle Dockery also enjoys her characters hard outer shell and stoic sensibilities: "I love that she does not apologize for who she is or what she has done too. Lady Mary might confess a doubt to Anna, her trusted lady maid, in private but never in public."

What kinds of things might expose some of Mary's cruelty? What events would she have to apologize for in "Downton Abbey" this year?

In an interview with entertainment magazine Xpose, Hayek confessed that after a recent move to London, she'd "kill for a role" in "Downton Abbey." However, she opined that being a Latina might hinder her incorporation into the show. "What is a Mexican going to do in 'Downton Abbey?' I would have to play dumb and deaf."

The period series may find the new season landing in the U.K. in September, so until then, we can only speculate on where the upstairs/downstairs drama will find itself in Season 5.
