'Doom 4' Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC with Early 2015 Release Date: Game Brings Back Old-School

Bethesda has released a teaser trailer for the new 'Doom 4' game during the QuakeCon event on July 17. The game, as it turns out, won't be called 'Doom 4', but will actually be a reboot of the original game that first popularized the first-person shooter genre.

The original storyline for the first game was set on Mars, where a portal to hell was accidentally opened during an experiment. The protagonist must now take up arms and run down the demons he encounters.

One of the most endearing features of the original game was its fast-paced guns-blazing action. Executive producer Marty Stratton said that the game would be returning to its roots which made it popular in the first place; a game with fast-action, run-and-gun, inventive and creative combat.

During the reveal at QuakeCon, gameplay footage was shown and there was a lot of strafing and running around, much like in the original game. New features such as jetpacks were also shown, putting emphasis on finding higher ground, up and away from the hordes of enemies below.

Some other old-school elements were introduced into the game as well, like exploding barrels and non-regenerative health. Much like 'Wolfenstein: New World Order' (the reboot to the retro 'Wolfenstein first-person' shooter), players will have to pick up "med" packs to restore their health, the old-school way.

The game is currently being developed on the new id Tech 6 engine, which is supposedly going to support 1080p full HD 60fps gameplay.

There are no exact dates as to when the game will be released, but there is speculation that it will see an early 2015 release for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and the PC.
