Don Cheadle Will Star in "Kill The Trumpet Player," a Miles Davis Biopic and His Directorial Debut

Don Cheadle is starring in and directing the new Miles Davis biopic called "Kill the Trumpet Player," will try to breakdown the stereotype of what people expect from a biopic documentary. The film is being co-written by Cheadle and he will play Miles Davis. The co-stars will be Ewan McGregor as a Rolling Stone journalist and Zoe Saldana as Davis' ex-wife Frances.

Cheadle has said that he wants this biopic to be daring and non-traditional. He talked at the American Film Market last week and said, "I hope with this film we can kill the biopic. This film won't try to give a broad overview of Davis' life and give short shrift to this man's story. For us as creative people, the time of his life that was most interesting was the five years when he wasn't playing, when he was silent. What was going on in his mind? And how did he come out of it and return to music?"

Davis had a 50 year career in jazz music and died at the age of 65 in 1991.

There are rumors that George Tillman Jr. is working on a more traditional Miles Davis biopic. Tillman was the mastermind behind the popular Notorious B.I.G. biopic "Notorious."
