'Doctor Who' Christmas Special Spoilers, Recap: Episode is 'Big Lump of Goodness' Says Producer Moffat

For those that are unfamiliar 'Doctor Who' is about an alien time lord from the planet Gallifrey, who he uses his Tardis, a powerful machine that controls time and space (and looks remarkably akin to a blue London police box), to save innocent people from harms way.

On that note, the Doctor returned to Earth this December in a 'Doctor Who' Christmas special. Steven Moffat, the 'Doctor Who' series producer and writer did not want to give out too many details before the recent broadcast, which left many watchers excited and in suspense.

On the success and controversial opinions of the series as a whole, Moffat comments, "Shows don't die when people say, 'I don't like it now!' - shows die when people say, 'Oh, it's quite good, I quite like it'. That's when a show dies - when people think it's fine... like a pair of slippers." Moffat aims to surprise and sometimes appall with his Doctors to keep the audience's interest.

In the episode Moffat chose to ignore holiday cheer in favor of "a scary, tense and claustrophobic adventure", as Moffat says. The showrunner Moffat has told Radio Times that there is still a "big lump of goodness" despite the horror of the series.

Santa Claus, or Nick Frost, has had a past with the Doctor, although it is not mentioned explicitly in the show.

The way Santa was written into the Christmas Special reflected a proper 'Doctor Who' science fiction character in the way that other Christmas specials have not done before.

On that note, fans of 'Doctor Who' are still waiting for details and spoilers about the upcoming ninth season of the series, but those details have not yet been revealed by the cast, crew, or production team members.
