Disneyland Explosion Has a Suspect In Custody; Dry Ice Explodes in ToonTown

A Disneyland employee was arrested yesterday. This was in connection with a dry ice explosion at the theme park. Christian Barnes (22, of Long Beach) was arrested late on Tuesday, according to Anaheim police.

Barnes was booked on "suspicion of possessing a destructive device." Barnes is reportedly cooperating with investigators. Barnes was brought in because investigators believe that he may have had access to the dry ice from the food storage in Disneyland.

"He's not no one that would do something to hurt anyone or anything like that," Christian's father, Raymond Barnes, told KTLA. "He's not violent at all. I just think it's a case of an unfortunate mistake," he said.

There were no injuries and no damage reported, but it definitely scared visitors in the park. Patrons were immediately evacuated and the Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad was called in for further investigation.

"We're not certain that he understood the full weight of what would happen when this did go off in those trash cans," Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said. "Is it possible that it was a prank? Absolutely," Dunn said. "Are we investigating it as a crime? Absolutely."

"They have a right to check into things thoroughly, and I understand that," Raymond Barnes said. "But when the smoke clears, they'll see that he's a very good kid."

Disneyland officials said they were taking the matter very seriously and were working with authorities.
