Detroit Bound GreyHound Bus Overturns in SouthWest Ohio, Injuring 34
Clear Saturday skies in the region, just 25 miles north of Cincinnati, weren't able to keep the fully rested Greyhound bus driver of 15 years from striking a tree and fence off Interstate 75, leading to having the bus to flip over on its side and sliding, until eventually stopping in a cornfield. All this happening offan interstate highway, injuring 34 of the 51 passengers including the bus driver, in southwest Ohio. No life threatening injuries were reported, although firefighters and paramedics did have to extract several people trapped, State Highway Patrol say in a statement. The Detroit bound bus was leaving Cincinnati, until the accident. All injured passengers, were treated, released from hospitals and were transported back to Cincinnati, along with the non-injured, however none returned to the bus station later that morning.
Officials reported that the injuries range from minor to severe, and are currently investigating the cause of the crash. Of the 34 injured six were taken by helicopters and the remainder by ambulance. Highway Patrol states that about 3:50 A.M., the bus careened off the right side of the highway. Due to medical privacy laws, the name of the driver has yet to be released. Greyhound Lines Inc. spokeswoman Kim Plaskett has said that the driver had been on duty for more than an hour. She states that 'the Dallas based company is cooperating with inspectors and will discuss with the driver what exactly happened'. She also says that details of the crash or its cause are not for discussion and that 14 days ago the bus had its annual inspection, with drivers doing pre-trip inspections to make sure buses are apt to travel.
Plaskett states that 'Greyhound sent a crisis-response team to the site to help the customers and authorities as soon as the company was alerted of the crash'.I remember about 5 days before this incident, getting off the Greyhound Bus to take a break in their Chattanooga station at what seemed like 12:00 midnight. I went to wash off a bit, and saw the bus driver. I turned at him and said "So, you drive the bus? How do you do it?" He turned around slightly and with an amused smile on his face and he said to me "Pray...you pray."
