Demi Lovato Talks Cocaine, Alcohol Abuse: "X Factor" Judge and "Heart Attack Singer Reveals She Did Drugs on Airplanes
X Factor judge and "Heart Attack" singer Demi Lovato is never shy to open up about her past struggles with substance abuse. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Lovato reveals how she battled with a very severe cocaine addiction in her late teens.
"I couldn't go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes," Lovato told Access Hollywood's Kit Hooveron Monday. "I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I'd sneak to the bathroom and I'd do it."
The X Factor judge also confessed to struggling with bulimia and bipolar disorder and sought out medical treatment in 2010 for "emotional and physical issues."
Cocaine wasn't the only substance Lovato was abusing. While living in a sober living house, Lovato would find different ways to slip alcohol into her body.
"I was going to the airport and I had a Sprite bottle just filled with vodka and it was just nine in the morning," Lovato said. "I was throwing up in the car and this was just to get on a plane to go back to LA to the sober living house that I was staying at."
Maybe she's sincere or just trying to plug her recently released memoir Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year. Either way Lovato is staying busy as, acting as a judge on The X Factor and will be setting out on a U.S. tour called The Neon Lights Tour in February of 2014.
