Daytime Emmys 2014 Controversy: Co-Host's Rape Joke Just One Many Inappropriate Conversations During Live Stream (VIDEO)

The Daytime Emmys were hosted by four newcomers who are more known for their social media presence than their television chops, and now the Internet is buzzing in disapproval of the hosts' antics and offensive language.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was looking for hosts between the ages of 18 and 35 who had a large social media following, and had an entertainment news background. The four women chosen were Brittany Furlan (Vine), Lauren Elizabeth, Jessica Harlow, and Meghan Rosette, with the latter three having vlogs about style and fashion.

Each of these women have over 300,000 followers on social media, but none of them had news reporting in their background or red carpet etiquette when conducting interviews. During the pre-show they strongly flirted with every male they encountered, knew little about their subject material, and said offensive jokes.

Two of the more talked about offenses referred to African American actor Lawrence Saint-Victor as "a beautiful chocolate man" and asked him "What's it like to be a black man on a soap opera these days?" Furlan even made a rape joke at the expense of actor Ryan Paevey, "We're going to get you away from us before we rape you."

Watch the joke below:

Paevey came to their defense and posted on his Twitter: "No worries....I'm pretty easygoing, and I can't think of anything all night that didn't make me smile, haha."

Furlan also sneaked in a kiss to actor and host Mario Lopez on Vine. See that video below:

Furlan does not seem to mind the criticism of her and her partner's actions at the Emmy's. She posted her own quip about greatness on Twitter. "Would Alexander the Great have conquered the world if he 'dialed it back'? -Kenny Powers."

What do you think of the job these ladies did on the red carpet? Was it funny, or too over the top?
