Daft Punk Album Review: The French Duo Goes Vintage in Their Latest Record Breaking Release

Daft Punk Album Review

French duo Daft Punk have always been praised by music critics and had a loyal following. But, until the release of their latest record, Random Access Memories, they've not had huge commercial success. That all changed with the album release and the release of the hit single "Get Lucky."

On the first listen-through, the album seems to be one-note. You hear "Get Lucky" and you think that's the theme of the album, "you heard one, you've heard them all." It would be very easy to let that lull your ears into not paying attention. But really, that's the worst thing that you can do.

Daft Punk's whole album drips with vintage flair. Like an art-house movie, made in the style of a great classic film, Random Access Memories weaves modern themes seamlessly with traditional dance melodies and styles. The band channels a different time and place. It feels old, but it feels fresh. It's something that you could listen to and so could your parents.

The sound is instantly relatable, memorable, and relentlessly catchy. Daft Punk shows us with the release of Random Access Memories that they are here in the limelight to stay for a while.

The band has yet to announce a tour in support of the album, saying that "it can't be done", but only time will tell if they're just blowing smoke and buying time for the tour.
