Contax Released By AT&T, Details and Features: New Virtual Assitant App Organizes Contacts/Address Book

AT&T has just introduced its new prototype virtual assistant app Contax, which analyzes the communication patterns of users and tweaks their address book to organize it and give it some personal flair.

The researchers of AT&T wanted to create a virtual assistant that feels more personal and helpful to users looking to organize their social life. In the end, what they came up with was Contax.

The app takes note of the user's texting patterns and call logs, looking out for the important people that the user has contacted the most. With that data and information in mind, the app then re-organizes the phone's address book and order's the user's more frequent contacts.

Contax gauges the person's importance to the user and rates them based on physical proximity, the pattern of communication and the alleged strength of the relationship. Then, instead of showing off the standard alphabetized list of names, the app organizes everything into the user's social circle.

The graphic circle shows three to nine people that the user contacts often or is likely to interact with more than others. The app even sends out notifications to remind the user to contact said people if it's been awhile. With Contax's organizational system, the user's preferred contact persons are just a tap away.

Contax's goal is to modernize the address book, especially when faced with how difficult it is for some to manage their contacts and networks. With its new features though, Contaxt might even prove to be more helpful when compared to Google Now or Apple's Siri apps that provided more factual information than personal organization.

For now though, the Contax team is currently in the process of pitching the tool to other AT&T divisions with the goal of possibly rolling the app out to phones in the future. AT&T allocated $44 million to funding new ideas, enhancements and new technologies so it remains to be seen if they will pick up Contax for distribution.
