The self-proclaimed blend of "Switchfoot, Coldplay and 30 Seconds To Mars" is what Dixon wants listeners to hear on, "A Messenger". After Idol Dixon said he wanted to focus on making a "faith-based album" without losing his mainstream appeal.

His first single released off the album, "Never Gone" was about Dixon's experience on Idol how, when feeling isolated from reality, he would question if God was still there. Dixon says of the song, "God always answered...I was never gone." The single sold over 28,000 copies. His second single, "You Are" peaked at # 20 on the U.S. Hot Christian Songs chart.
