Colton Dixon “You Are” Full Lyrics and Song Story [VIDEO]

Colton Dixon, "American Idol" season 11 finalist, released his first single, "You Are" off his upcoming album, A Messenger in October. It reached number 1 on the iTunes Christian and Gospel singles chart within a week.

"You Are" was scheduled for release in late November but when Hurricane Sandy became such a nationwide issue, Christian EMI satellite label Sparrow Records felt the timing was advantageous and compatible with the song's message.

"You are the light that's in the dark ... And when my circumstance leaves me with empty hands / You are the provider of my needs / When all my dirtiness has left me helpless / You are the rain that washes me."

In a sit down with Dixon on his YouTube music channel he says, "'You Are' is a worship song that I started about a year ago with some friends. It's ["You Are"] a conversation between you and God that you're just loving on him."

Dixon says he was praying for the victims of Sandy at the time of the songs release. "It's insane -- I saw the picture of the storm coming over the Statue of Liberty, and while it looked absolutely beautiful, I thought, 'Holy cow, they must be scared out of their minds!'"

Dixon says the song is a confession that God is everything he needs and everything he doesn't already have.

"For me, it's you [God] are the song I'm singing, you're the air I'm breathing, you're the hope I'm needing. It's a chance that you get to connect with God and worship with me as it's in the song."

Regardless of what you think of Colton Dixon or his sound, it's obvious how the song's message could really help the victims of Sandy through a trying and seemingly hopeless time.

A Messenger will be available to the public January 29th.

You Are - Colton Dixon

When I can't find the words to say how much it hurts

You are the healing in my heart

When all that I can see are broken memories

You are the light that's in the dark

Chorus:

You are the song,

You are the song I'm singing.

You are the air,

You are the air I'm breathing

You are the hope,

You are the hope I needed.

Ohhooohh

You are

And when my circumstance leaves me with empty hands.

You are the provider of my needs.

When all my dirtiness has left me helpless.

You are the rain that washes me.

Chorus: (2x)

You are the song

You are the song I'm singing.

You are the air,

You are the air I'm breathing

You are the hope,

You are the hope I needed.

Ohhhhooohh

(X2) If I had no voice,

If I had no tongue,

I would dance for you like the rising sun.

And when that day comes and I see your face.

I will shout your endless glorious praise.

Chorus: (2x)

You are the song I'm singing.

You are the air,

You are the air I'm breathing

You are the hope,

You are the hope I needed.

Ohhhhoohhh
