Coca-Cola's Super Bowl 2014 Commercial Featuring 'America the Beautiful' Sang in Different Languages Unites the Country for all the Wrong Reasons

The Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl Sunday night for the first time was not the only thing that sparked the masses to take the social media. A so-called controversial Coca-Cola commercial struck a chord with some Americans due to the song "America the Beautiful" being sang in different languages.

"America the Beautiful" was sang with a new twist, which caused and uproar on Twitter from Americans who thought Cokes idea of being nationalistic was not. #SpeakAmerican and #BoycottCoke instantly started trending on Twitter, and chatter of the commercial looked a lot like this:

"Coke having a commercial with an American song in other languages... not cool," one Tweeted. Another said, "Nice to see that coke likes to sing an AMERICAN song in the terrorist's language. Way to go coke. You can leave America."

Many found the song sang in other languages offensive, "Still confused as to why they were singing about America in all those foreign languages in the Coke commercial. We speak English..." Someone else tweeting,"Dear Coke commercial.... DO NOT sing my Country's song of Freedom in a different language. ????"

In contrast others found the commercial embracing America's many different cultures and agreed with the commercial's statement, "The only thing more beautiful than this country are the people who live here. Watch and discover why #AmericaIsBeautiful."

"Coca Cola brings the commercial of the night: America the Beautiful sung in Spanish, English, Arabic, and other languages. Beautiful" agreed one fan of the commercial. Others found the backlash on Cola racist and outdated. "People complaining about the Cheerios and Coke commercial... I'm sorry did we go back in time to the 50s? Get over it," and, "If you're complaining about the biracial Cheerios couple & the muli-lingual Coke commercial, you can buy a one way ticket back to the 60's."
