CM Punk Returning to WWE 2014 News, Rumors: Paul Heyman Explains Why Superstar Might Fight in MMA (VIDEO)

In latest WWE news and rumors, CM Punk's former manager Paul Heyman explained why he thinks his ex-client (aka The Best in The World) will become an MMA fighter one day.

"Punk has always had the opinion that at its core, when the cage door gets locked it's two really capable people punching each other in the face until one drops," said Heyman to Ariel Helwani on 'The MMA Hour' show on August 4, "Sometimes the skill level is overrated, and the ability to just fight comes into play. He's educated in MMA. He' a very serious student of the disciplines and he's become far more entrenched."

The 48-year-old Scarsdale, New York native further expressed his views about his longtime friend possibly joining an MMA organization and having the same success as his current client, former WWE Champion and UFC Heavyweight Winner Brock Lesnar.

"He's a fighter at heart. One of the things that makes it so interesting is he (Punk) came into the wrestling world as a fighter who ended up performing, not a performer making a transition into the fighting world," said Heyman.

Punk has not appeared in the WWE ring since he competed at the Royal Rumble PPV event on January 26, but that fact has not stopped the widespread rumors that the "Straight Edge" superstar will return to the WWE.

"I think CM Punk's mind set is to never come back, and their [WWE] mind set is they never want him back," said Heyman, "He's driven and determined never to go back. He feels that if he ever goes back, it'll be a sign of failure on his part. His success in life is predicated on the idea he never goes back."
