'Clueless: The Musical' News: Director Amy Heckerling Confirms 'Clueless' Musical
After years of speculation about the possibility of Clueless: The Musical, a report from Entertainment Tonight has confirmed that it is happening.
Twenty years after Clueless first made its debut in theaters, Amy Hecklering, the director of the film, shared new details about the long awaited Broadway adaption of it.
"I've written the, what they call the book and it's a jukebox musical," she said to Entertainment Tonight.
Hecklering also confirmed that Kristin Hanggi, who is known bet for helming Rock of Ages, which spent six years on Broadway, will be directing the production. Dodger Theatricals will be producing it.
This production group is also known for producing Jersey Boys, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Into the Woods.
What Hecklering does not offer any details on is potential songs that will appear in the musical.
Likely, her biggest challenge will be finding people to take on the roles played by Alicia Silverstone,
Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd, in the film. "Well casting -- that's like going to be the main problem," admitted Hecklering.
Fans who are wondering when they will be able to go see the production will have to be patient.
"Everything goes so slowly, and I go, 'Wow this takes a long time," said Heckerling. "I thought movies took a long time. It's had to know with Broadway when things will happen."
She has also stated that she is considering some people for the roles, jokingly stating that she may cast Katy Perry or Iggy Azalea to play Silverstone's part.
