Cleveland Cavaliers News, Rumors 2014: Doubts on Kyrie Irving, Spotted in 'Walking Boot'
Brian Windhorst of ESPN does not have good news for Cleveland Cavaliers fans. Apparently, Kyrie Irving was spotted with a "walking boot" while he was sightseeing in Rio.
"Ran into Cavs as they were going sightseeing in Rio, Kyrie Irving is in a walking boot on his right foot." he said.
However, Joe Vardon of the Northeast Ohio Media Group has reported that Irving has only "tweaked his right foot" and walking boot is only a precaution, after the Xray and MRI came in negative.
Irving himself has stated that the injury is not serious however looking at their practice camp, Irving's status for Saturday's preseason game is still unclear. He had a team high with 20.8 points and 6.1 assists in 2013-14 seasons. So certainly, this is not the kind of start Cleveland Cavaliers wanted for on of their star players.
Irving has told the media that he and Varejao misread a play resulting in both colliding and Varejao stepped on Irving's foot as both players ended up on same spot. "We're still getting used to each other," Irving said, "LeBron saw me then Andy saw Bron's eyes, so we went to the same position. I was looking dead at LeBron, I don't know what Andy was doing. No, I'm joking, it was just a freaky play that happened."
Technically Irving is day to day with the team, but the possibility of him playing in the next few games seems bleak. "Right now, I'm probably not playing," Irving said, "I'm just glad I'm doing OK now, and I can still be here with the team."
Irving has also taken part in a clinic for Brazilian Children on Thursday afternoon and was out of the walking boot, however, he did miss most of practice that day.
Meanwhile Cavs' star Lebron James downplayed the exhibition game. "It's not much of an issue for me going up against Miami, I think," James said, "It's a preseason game. It's in Brazil so it's not really on an NBA floor."
