Civilization Beyond Earth Release Date: Hitting Shelves October 2014
The latest installment to Sid Meier's Civilization Franchise, Civilization: Beyond Earth, is looking to hit the shelves on October 24, 2014, publishers 2K and Firaxis Games have confirmed this date.
Beyond Earth continues the franchise in a totally different frontier. Where the previous titles have delved in ancient civilizations to the more modern eras, the fresh title focuses on outer space. Players attempt to raise a civilization in the reaches of outer space, colonizing distant worlds unknown to man.
"Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth will propel the development of human civilization beyond the traditional timeline of a Civilization game, by exploring humanity's future on an alien world," according to Firaxis.com.
2K and Firaxis Games will be releasing the game on the Windows-based PC platform while Aspyr Media will be porting the game to MAC and Linux users.
Pre-orders for the game will be included with the Exoplanets Map Pack that includes six custom maps. Kepler 186f, Rigil Khantoris Bb, Tau Ceti d, Mu Arae f, 82 Eridani e, and Eta Vulpeculae b, will be available in the map pack, all inspired by real-life discovered exoplanets.
Players who delve into the game will discover a few key features. These will include Seed the Adventure, Alien World, a new technology web, a new quest system, and a new orbital layer. Some of these features are unique to the game, like the new technology web. Unlike previous Civilization games, technology choices were linear, whereas in Beyond Earth, players can freely choose what technology to research.
Like previous Civilization games, players will encounter enemies while building their civilizations. These enemies take on the form of alien species. Players will also be allowed to colonize other suitable planets thus extending the gameplay experience.
