A film remake of Walt Disney Pictures' Cinderella will feature "Downton Abbey" star Lily James in the lead role. Cinderella (2015) will be a live-action romance fantasy film directed by Kenneth Branagh and is scheduled to hit the theaters March 13, 2015.

The story will follow the same pattern and plot as the original fairy tale Cinderella. However, director Branagh is likely to take certain liberties and spice up the movie for a new age feel.
According to reports, Disney fairy tale movies have been striving to modernize their depiction of classic fairy tale stories by updating characters and themes. Also mentioned was a distinct cinematic effect to take hold over the entirety of the new Cinderella live-action romance film.
The long awaited film was supposed to be released in 2012, but got delayed by several reasons. The main reason for the delay was ultimately because of the previous director Guillermo Del Toro, was forced to drop out of the project due to other straining commitments.
Lily James looked like a real princess in the Cinderella photos going around, but other stars were first considered before they found the perfect cast. Emma Watson was first offered to play Cinderella, however she had to drop out of the project due to the Beauty and the Beast adaptation. Gabriella Wilde, Saoirse Ronan and Alicia Vikander were also offered the part.
