‘Chicago Fire’ Season 3 Spoilers: New Episode to Focus on Life at Firehouse 51 After Shay’s Death

'Chicago Fire' is expected to return with more flame fueled drama when it returns with Episode 2 of Season 3, next Tuesday Sept. 30, at 10 pm EDT on NBC.

In fact, gauging from what fans witnessed in the Season 3 premiere, it is difficult for them to even imagine what the show creators have in store for them for the remaining part of the 2014 Fall season.

During Episode 1, titled "Always," Firehouse 51 lost a team member, Leslie Shay (Lauren German), owing to an explosion that was shown in the Season 2 finale. Since then, fans were left trying to understand which of their favorite characters wouldn't be returning to the new season of 'Chicago Fire'.

They eventually learned the truth when they saw the scene with Gabby (Monica Raymund) trying to resuscitate Shay, who was lying motionless in a puddle of her own blood.

The remaining part of the premiere showed how 'Chicago Fire' characters coped with Shay's death. Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney), best friend of Shay, took the death especially hard. However, after a hiatus, fans will see him returning to Firehouse 51 in Episode 2, but he will come across as odd and seemingly different.

Meanwhile, 'Chicago Fire' executive producer Matt Olmstead told Entertainment Weekly, "He just becomes a little bit detached from people. Not so much a depression, but it's a, 'I don't really care anymore because nothing lasts forever, nothing makes sense. I don't really give it an s--- I'm just going to have a good time. I'm going to do my job. I don't care about consequences. I don't really care about anything.'"

Olmstead went on to say, "It's ostensibly a guy who's gone back to his party boy behavior, but what he's doing is trying to outpace and outdistance this grief that he's not dealt with, and it's just a matter of when it's going to catch up to him and what's he going to do when he ultimately has to deal with that."

However, the Episode 2 plot will not just focus on Shay's death. The official synopsis says that Dawson (Monica Raymund) will be counting down the weeks until she can start as a candidate at the Austin Firehouse, while Mills (Charlie Barnett) becomes aware of his family history.

Meanwhile, fans can also anticipate Sophia Bush, Kenny Johnson, Edwin Hodge and Randy Flagler to feature in Episode 2 as guest stars.
