In the Season 6 finale, fans saw Richard Castle leaving for his wedding to Katherine Beckett. While on the way, he notices a black SUV following him. Soon after, Beckett receives a call and viewers are shown Castle's car going up in flames, lying in a ditch.

The premiere begins right where fans were left after the Season 6 finale. Espo, Martha, Alexis and Ryan all gather around the scene of the accident. As witnessed in the brief promo for the latest season, Beckett soon realizes that Castle is not in the car. This sets off a search for Richard Castle.

As Kate starts pursuing the evidence looking for Castle, she admirably composes herself. But, when she comes across a prospective suspect, she tries all ways to get information she needs.

As the case goes on, Captain Gates suggests that Becket should allow the FBI help her in the case and she agrees reluctantly. When an FBI Agent Connors (Jon Lindstrom) requests Beckett to list every person from her and Castle's cases who might be involved in the kidnapping, obviously, the first people would be Senator Bracken and 3XX.

Castle's father's name was also suggested, but was dismissed, as fans should expect, as they were promised a new angle in Castle's disappearance. In the recent episode, Vincent 'The Scar' Cardano, who first appeared in the Season 5 series, 'Murder, He Wrote', appears once again.

Questioning him leads to a vital piece of evidence which gives the case an entirely new dimension, which one was not expected.
