Carrie Underwood Interview Discussing 'The Sound of Music Live!' on NBC Airing December 2013 (VIDEO)

The Sound of Music Live! starring Carrie Underwood airs in just a few weeks, on Thursday Dec 5 on NBC.

Carrie Underwood recently spoke about playing Maria in The Sound of Music Live! (watch interview below). 

They are not calling this a 'remake' of the classic movie but a live production will air LIVE in a three hour broadcast on NBC this holiday season in December. 

The Grammy winning country star will play the famous starring role of Maria, the role Julie Andrews made famous, in the upcoming production. 

Underwood is expected to star opposite Stephen Moyer (True Blood), as Captain von Trapp, the widower who falls for Maria. 

The production will be based on the Rogers & Hammerstein musical that became a hit on Broadway and led to the original film in 1965 starring Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

The Sound of Music Live! will air Thursday, December 5th at 8/7 CST on NBC. Will you be watching?
