Carmelo Anthony Rumors: Likely to Renew Contract with New York Knicks

A recent report by Frank Isola of The Daily Mail claims that all the rumors about concerning Carmelo Anthony's team next year should be set aside, as it is now confirmed that he will re-sign with the New York Knicks.

It is expected that Anthony will provide his official statement and decision relatively soon. The Knicks are offering a $129 million dollar contract over the next five years.

Isola claims that a close friend of Anthony told him, "He will have something for every body on Thursday," adding, "He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil."

Phil, referred to by Anthony's purported friend, is Knicks president Phil Jackson, who not only dined with the superstar, but also worked on enhancing the roster during the off-season in the best possible way by dealing Tyson Chandler as well as the troubled point guard Raymong Felton to the Mavericks to get Jose Calderon.

In addition, Phil also signed up Derek Fisher, who was touted by Kevin Durant to be the coach during a discussion with Anthony. The statement 'believing in Phil" has intrigued many, as this is an indication of what Knicks president can do for the Anthony and his soon to be team, the Knicks. In that case, Phil can also convince other stars to join the team. In fact, this raises the possibilty of free agent forward Pau Gasol joining Knicks, as he is reported to have already talked to Anthony about his willingness to join the team.

Isola wrote in The Daily Mail, "Ultimately, Anthony's heart is in New York where his family is comfortable and where he confident that Jackson can return the club to prominence," adding, "Anthony's friend says that Anthony prolonging his decision is not a reflection of him having second thoughts about the Knicks. Instead, it was Anthony wanting to be sure that he could put himself in position to win a championship."
